To say that this has been a mediocre Olympics so far for Bruin athletes is probably an understatement.

Going into today, the only Bruin medalist was incoming freshman Madison Kocian who won a gold as a member of the Final Five and won a silver for her individual performance on the uneven bars.

But, today, the Bruins have increased UCLA’s medal count.

First, Jessie Fleming got things started by winning a bronze medal in women’s soccer as a part of Team Canada.

Then, the US Women’s Water Polo team which is coached by former Bruin coach Adam Krikorian and which has five current or former Bruins on the roster won the gold medal by defeating Italy by a score of 12-5.

The Bruins winning the gold medal today include UCLA alums KK Clark, Sami Hill and Courtney Mathewson; current student Rachel Fattal; and, incoming freshman Maddie Musselman.

UCLA’s Rio 2016 medal count now stands at 6 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

Congratulations to Coach Krikorian and all 6 Bruins who won medals today.

Go Bruins!!!
