UCLA Women’s Rowing
We’re going to start off this morning with a sport that we don’t cover too often — Women’s Rowing. Senior Marie Jacquet has been named to the second-team Pocock All-America honors by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.
UCLA Track & Field
To be named to the first team, a student-athlete needed to finish in the top 8 of an event at the NCAA Track and Field Championships. Second team honorees finishes between 9th and 16th while honorable mention was given to those who finished 17th through 24th.
That’s why Rai Benjamin earned First Team honors for his performance in the 400m hurdles.
Second team honorees from the men’s team were Michael Burke for the high jump, Daniel De La Torre for the 5,000m, Simon Litzell in the javelin and Austin O'Neil for the 3,000m steeplechase.
The women’s team added three Second Team honorees. Ashlie Blake earned the honor for the shot put while Zaybree Haury earned it for the javelin and Julia Rizk did so for the 800m.
The men’s 4X100 relay team consisting of Rai Benjamin, two-sport athlete Eldridge Massington, Leon Powell and Darnell Roberson received an honorable mention as did Dotun Ogundeji for the discus. On the women’s side, freshman Marian Spannowsky earned an honorable mention for the javelin as did junior Misana Viltz for the 110m hurdles.
UCLA Men’s Tennis
The Pac-12 Conference annnounced its selections for the men’s tennis All-Pac-12 Team. The men’s tennis doubles pair of Martin Redlicki and Evan Zhu has been named the Doubles Team of the Year by the Pac-12 Conference. Redlicki also earned his second consecutive All-Pac-12 First Team selection. Meanwhile, Zhu and senior Gage Brymer were both named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team. Junior Logan Staggs earned an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention.
