The UCLA Women’s Tennis team opens their quest for 117 this afternoon when the Bruins host the Fresno State Bulldogs at the LA Tennis Center.
UCLA finished second in the Pac-12 during the regular season and was the runner-up in the Pac-12 Tennis Tournament.
The Bruins are led by sophomore Ena Shibahara on court one. Shibahara is ranked 9th in the country. She finished the season with a 23-8 record. On court two is redshirt sophomore Jada Hart. Hart is ranked 33rd and compiled a record of 25-10 this season. The Bruins’ lone senior is Terri Fleming on court three. Fleming and Hart also make up UCLA’s court one doubles pair.
Freshman Abi Altick plays on court four. Altick is ranked 67th in the nation and had a 28-9 record this season. The Bruins complete their singles lineup with a pair of juniors. Ayan Broomfield will play on court five while Alaina Miller will compete on court six. Miller will also pair up with Shibahara on doubles court three while Broomfield will match up with junior Gabby Andrews on doubles court two.
While UCLA has earned the 12 seed for the tournament, the Bruins were ranked 14th this week. As the top ranked team in this weekend’s regional, UCLA is expected to win and move on to the round of sixteen that starts next weekend at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
But, first, the Bruins need to beat Fresno State today and the winner of the match between Baylor and North Carolina State which preceeds UCLA’s match.
Unfortunately, this weekend’s matches are not televised, but you can follow along with the live stats.
