After defeating the Fresno State Bulldogs, 4-0, yesterday, the UCLA Women’s Tennis team will take on the Baylor Bears this evening.
The match was originally scheduled for 3 pm PT today, but was delayed due to the men’s matches also being played today at the LA Tennis Center. It is now scheduled to start at 5:30 pm PT.
The Bruins advanced yesterday by sweeping Fresno State, 4-0. UCLA started off by taking the doubles point after Alaina Miller and Ena Shibahara won their doubles match, 6-1, and Teri Fleming and Jada Hart won their match, 6-4.
As the schools moved to singles, Miller was the first to win her match, 6-1, 6-1, to put the Bruins up, 2-0. Shibahara earned UCLA’s third point by winning, 6-0, 7-6. Abi Altick’s 6-0, 6-0, win over Ndindi Ndunda ended the match as Altick had scored UCLA’s fourth point, which stopped play on the remaining courts.
This evening, the Bruins face the Baylor Bears in another untelevised match. The Bears advanced by beating North Carolina State, 4-3, in yesterday’s early match.
While the Bears are likely to prove tougher than the Bulldogs did, UCLA should still come out of this match with a victory, allowing them to advance to the Round of 16, which starts next Thursday.
