After having their match against Idaho delayed by rain which delayed the first match of the day between Texas Tech and San Diego, the UCLA Men’s Tennis team made quick work of the Vandals, sweeping them 4-0.

The Bruins started off by winning the doubles point. First, UCLA’s court two pair of Austin Rapp and Keegan Smith defeated Esteban Santibanez and Lucas Coutinho, 6-2. Then, Martin Redlicki and Evan Zhu defeated Mark Kovacs and Carlos Longhi Neto, 6-3, to score the Bruins’ first point.

As the match moved to singles action, UCLA won the first set on all six courts. As the matches moved to the second set, Zhu won his match first, defeating Felipe Fonseca, 6-1, 6-1. Then, Max Cressy won his match over Santibanez, 6-1, 6-1. That left UCLA needing just one more match win on the four remaining courts to advance to the Second Round.

Smith picked that point up by defeating Longhi Neto, 6-2, 6-2, to complete the 4-0 sweep for the Bruins.

The Bruins will now face San Diego, who had defeated Texas Tech, 4-2, earlier on Saturday to advance to the Second Round. The winner of today’s match will head to the Round of 16 on Friday at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
