UCLA Finishes First Round in 3rd Place at NCAA Women’s Golf Championships

After the first round at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships in Stillwell, Oklahoma, the UCLA Bruins are in third place. The Bruins finished up with a six-over 294. UCLA is three strokes behind Southern Cal and two strokes behind Alabama.

The best performance of the day by the Bruins came from freshman Patty Tavatanakit, who shot a one-under 71. She trails Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho by six strokes. Lilia Vu is tied for 11th overall after shooting a par 72. Mariel Galdiano finished the first round tied for 35th with a 3-over 75. Bethany Wu shot a 4-over 76 and Clare Legaspi shot a 7-over 79.

Because the Bruins finished up the first round in third place, they have the earliest tee time today. That means that they are teeing off at 5:30 am PT along with 2nd place Alabama and 16th place Arkansas.

After tomorrow’s third round, the top 15 teams will make the cut and play the fourth round on Monday and, then, the top eight teams after Monday’s fourth round will move on to match play to play for the national championship starting on Tuesday.
