The Bruins are heading to the National Championship Dual where they will be looking to avenge Friday’s loss to Florida State.
To get to the Championship Dual, the Bruins had to defeat Hawai’i and it was a tough match.
UCLA started off stronger by winning set one on courts five, two and one but the Sandbows took set one on courts four and three.
The teams split the first two points with Hawai’i getting the point on court four and UCLA taking it on court five within moments of each other.
The McNamara twins then put the Bruins ahead, 2-1, by sweeping Hawai’i on court one.
That left UCLA needing to win one of the two matches that went to a third set.
Unfortunately, Savvy Simo and Zana Muno could not wrap-up the match for the Bruins as they dropped their third set, 12-15. That sent the crowd scurrying over to court 2 where Lily Justine and Sarah Sponcil were still playing.
Justine and Sponcil took their third set, 15-11, to send the Bruins to the National Championship Dual.
Now, the Bruins just need to find a way to defeat the Florida State Seminoles who dominated them in a winner’s bracket match on Friday.
The key to victory will be attacking the Seminoles early and winning the first set on as many courts as possible.
This is your NCAA Beach Volleyball National Championship open thread.
