What’s Bruin: UCLA Swimming & Diving Has a Good Weekend with Multiple Wins

The UCLA women’s water polo team starts the season with five wins. Plus, women’s basketball and men’s volleyball news.

What’s Bruin this Monday morning? Let’s take a look at how some of the Bruin teams did over the weekend.

UCLA Women’s Water Polo

The women’s water polo team won two more games yesterday. In the first game, they beat #9 Michigan, 9-7. Val Ayala picked up her third hat trick in four games while Lizette Rozeboom added two goals. Later in the day, the Bruins beat host UCSB, 6-4. Emily Skelly and Bronte Halligan had two goals each. UCLA finished the weekend a perfect 5-0.

UCLA Women’s Basketball

The women’s basketball team lost to Southern Cal yesterday afternoon, 72-67. It’s the fourth consecutive loss for the Bruins and it was Southern Cal’s first Pac-12 win of the season. Michaela Onyenwere had a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds in a losing effort for UCLA.

UCLA Men’s Volleyball

The #6 Bruin men’s volleyball team was swept by #1 Long Beach State on Saturday night. Brandon Rattray led the team with 10 kills while Micah Ma’a had 29 assists and 8 digs.

UCLA Swimming & Diving

In the Bruins’ final home meet of the season, UCLA’s swimmers defeated Oregon State on Saturday, 160-93. Meanwhile, the divers participated in the three-day Bruin Invitational diving competition. Seniors Maria Polyakova finished first in the 3-meter competion on Friday while Eloise Belanger finished second. On Saturday, Belanger won the platform competition. Then, yesterday, she also won the 1-meter competition.

UCLA Gymnastics

The team was off over the weekend, but will host the Arizona State Sun Devils this afternoon at 2 pm PT at Pauley Pavilion in a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day matinee.
