UCLA Women’s Golf Falls to 18th Place After NCAA Championships Round Two

The UCLA women’s golf team faces an uphill battle today. After the weather caused the second round to be stopped on Saturday and resumed on Sunday, the NCAA has decided to shorten the stroke play portion of the competition to just 54 holes.

To make matters worse, UCLA had another bad day yesterday. The Bruins shot a 16-over 308 as a team, which dropped them from 15th to 18th on the leaderboard.

Now, the Bruins will have only one day, rather than two, to make up the 16-stroke deficit between them and eighth-place Northwestern.

Yesterday’s leader for the Bruins was Mariel Galdiano who shot a 2-over 75. Patty Tavatanakit shot a 4-over 77 which was second best for UCLA. Tavatanakit remains the best Bruin overall and is tied for 32nd on the player leaderboard.

Both Bethany Wu and Phoebe Yue shot a 5-over 78. Claire Legaspi had UCLA’s worst score of the day with an 8-over 81.

The Bruins teed off at just after 6 am PT this morning. TV coverage for the day can be found on the NBC Golf Channel.
