The UCLA men’s tennis team advanced to today’s second round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament by defeating Grand Canyon University, 4-0, yesterday. Today, the Bruins will take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys at 3 pm PT.
Last Time Out
The Bruins didn’t have much trouble with the Antelopes yesterday. UCLA quickly won the doubles point when Govind Nanda and Connor Rapp beat Valentin Lang and Jakub Novak, 6-1, on doubles court three and Bryce Pereira and Patrick Zahraj defeated Freddie Grant and Lucas Grego, 6-1, on double court two. Maxime Cressy and Keegan Smith were up 5-2 when play was stopped because UCLA had clinched the doubles point.
In singles action, Ben Goldberg was the first Bruin to win his singles match when he defeated Grant, 6-0, 6-2. Keegan Smith scored the Bruins’ third point by defeating Mathieu Rajaonah, 6-3, 6-3.
With the score now UCLA 3, GCU 0, the Bruins just needed to win one more singles pair to win the match. They got it from Cressy who defeated Lorenzo Fucile, 6-1, 6-4. That finished the match and play on courts three, four and six were suspended.
Today, the Bruins face the Oklahoma State Cowboys at 3 pm PT. The Cowboys defeated Ole Miss, 4-1, to advance to face UCLA.
