The UCLA women’s golf team began play in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Golf Regional in East Lansing, Michigan yesterday. After completion of the first round, the Bruins currently sit in seventh place and are just two strokes out of sixth place.
That’s important because the top six teams from each regional competition will advance to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships.
As a team, the Bruins finished yesterday with an 8-over 296.
UCLA was led by the performance of Bethany Wu. Wu finished yesterday’s competition tied for third overall with a 2-under 70. She is just two strokes off the lead.
Meanwhile, Patty Tavatanakit is tied for sixth with a 1-under 71. Clare Legaspi was the third best Bruin yesterday with a 3-over 75. Mariel Galdiano wrapped up the day with an 8-over 80 which tied her for 81st place while Phoebe Yue finished tied for 88th with an 10-over 82.
Second round play was scheduled to begin at 5 am PT this morning, but the start appears to have been delayed until at least 11 am PT due to rain.
