This afternoon, 4-star PF Cody Riley from Chatsworth Sierra Canyon committed to UCLA Basketball. Riley is a 6'7" inch athletic banger who gives UCLA a more traditional four as its power forward.

Riley chose UCLA over Kansas.

He made his announcement on a LiveStream video.

Despite the video announcement, Scout seems to have broken the news earlier this morning when they published an article announcing the commitment.

Riley explained to Scout what he likes about UCLA:

It’s a great academic institution. On the basketball side it’s a powerhouse. It’s legendary with John Wooden coaching there. It’s going to be easy to transfer my game and my personality to that culture.

He also seems to get it when it comes to UCLA Basketball. He also told Scout:

It’s going to be great. The goal is to win a national championship at UCLA. You have to do historic things in order to leave your stamp there. So the goal is to win a national championship.

There are some unique things about Riley. His weight is one of them. At 250 (some places 260), he outweighs Thomas Welsh and everyone on our current team. Unlike many young fours, he is not a skinny. He will be ready to bang inside for the boards from day one.

Next is his height. Riley is "short" for a four these days. That won't hurt him in college but the pros like taller fours. This could lead to him staying at UCLA for four years.

All in all, this is a great short and long term recruit.

He will be part of a recruiting class that Scout now ranks as number three in the country and includes Jaylen Hands, Jalen Hill and LiAngelo Ball.

Riley announced his commitment only a week after taking his official visit to UCLA last weekend.

Welcome to Westwood, Cody!

Go Bruins!!!
