After narrowing it down to Oregon and UCLA, Elijah Gates, the fifth ranked cornerback in the west according to Scout.com, committed to UCLA this afternoon.
Gates hails from Buena Park High School and played both sides of the ball for the Coyotes. He has the skills necessary to cover receivers at the collegiate level and he’ll only get better when he is able to focus on the defensive side of the ball.

Here are his season highlights, courtesy of Hudl:
Credit must be given where credit is due. As it turns out, Coach Demetrice Martin was once again instrumental in landing this recruit. Gates will be joining the nation's number one rated corner, Darnay Holmes, as well as four-star Jaylan Shaw and three-stars Quentin Lake and Morrell Osling. As if that wasn’t enough, Coach Martin was also the primary recruiter for five-star defensive end Jaelan Phillips, the number one defensive end in the country, who is already enrolled at UCLA.
The 2017 class is shaping up nicely. Welcome, Elijah!
Go Bruins!
