UCLA’s 2017 recruiting class got a big shot in the arm today when 5-star Calabasas CB/WR Darnay Holmes announced his commitment to the Bruins. Holmes is 5’10" and weighs 187 lbs. He is the third addition to UCLA’s recruiting class in two days. Yesterday, Rahyme Johnson and Martin Andrus also joined the class.
In making the announcement, Holmes told NBC Sports:
For the next 3 or 4 years, I’m going to play at the Rose Bowl....At the end of the day, you’ve got to always go where family’s at and make sure you’re going to be taken care of because, at the end of the day, some college coaches might tell you things that might not be true or may be true, but you’ve always got to stay close to your family and always keep God first.
Holmes’ dad Darick was asked if Darnay’s choice made him happy. He said:
Very happy. The decision came down to a family decision and we wanted to make sure he put it on for our city Pasadena and Demetrice Martin, that’s family. So, he played a big part of this.
Here’s the full video of Darnay’s announcement as seen on NBC Sports.
Of course, the best part of the video is his nephew pointing to the Ohio State cap and being disappointed when he chose the Bruins’ cap.
Holmes also posted a video to Twitter announcing the decision.
