UCLA Football Commit Dorian Thompson-Robinson Leads Gaels to 55-0 League Win

Dorian Thompson-Robinson had another limited but tremendous performance last Friday.

High School Football: St. Dematha at Bishop Gorman Joshua Dahl-USA TODAY Sports

There are not a lot of times that a football player can walk off the field after a game and say they were perfect. Dorian Thompson-Robinson did just that last Friday. DTR was a perfect 9/9 for 275 yards and five touchdowns as the Gaels won 55-0 over Durango. Thompson-Robinson connected on TD throws of 6, 30, 36, 54 and 60 yards.

This game continues the year-long pattern for the Gaels of jumping on top of opponents early and often then cruising to easy wins. It also continues the pattern for the Gaels defense of not giving up any points. Bishop Gorman’s defense recorded its fifth straight shutout.

The Bishop Gorman blowouts continue to take Thompson-Robinson out of game situations early and often. When this happens, Thompson-Robinson cannot get the reps that some feel he needs since he didn’t take many quarterback snaps as a high school junior. So how do his numbers (specifically attempts and completions) match up against a few of the top rated high school quarterbacks, some of which Thompson-Robinson competed against at the Elite 11 competition over the summer?

Top 2018 High School Quarterbacks

Quarterback College Commitment Completions Attempts Yards TD's Ints.
Thompson-Robinson UCLA 97 151 2043 25 3
Justin Fields Georgia 98 148 1678 21 2
Trevor Lawrence Clemson 134 183 2648 34 1
Matt Corral Florida 94 157 1578 14 5
J.T. Daniels 2019 USC 136 186 2179 26 3

Overall, despite the lack of competition for DTR this year in the Class 4A Southwest League, his numbers match up pretty favorably with the above mentioned quarterbacks. Moreover, none of the quarterbacks played the type of early season schedule that Thompson-Robinson did to start the year.

The Bishop Gorman Gaels (7-2, 5-0 Class 4A Southwest League) might have their toughest league game to date this Thursday as they play Sierra Vista (6-1, 5-0) for the league title and a No. 1 seed in the playoffs. This might put Thompson-Robinson in the position to play a little longer.

UCLA Commitment Strong?

Some have asked if the struggles at UCLA are weighing on Thompson-Robinson’s commitment to UCLA. DTR has been consistent in voicing his strong commitment to UCLA at every turn. Thompson-Robinson has said that he will sign his letter of intent in February and report for fall camp. The following Tweet continues to show DTR’s thoughts on UCLA:

NFL Network’s Elite 11

Episode Six concludes the Elite 11 competition. The Elite 11 series has clearly shown one thing, Thompson-Robinson was one of the best high school quarterbacks in the country over the summer, and this high school season has only reiterated that Thompson-Robinson’s skill set is at an elite level.

Good Luck this Thursday DTR!
