UCLA Bruins basketball is about to kickoff their 2017-2018 season with an exhibition game on Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean that recruiting for the future is on the back burner.

This morning, UCLA’s 2019 class received a verbal commitment from 4-star shooting guard Grant Sherfield out of Mansfield Summit (Arlington, TX). The 6-2, 180-pound Sherfield shared his decision on Twitter.

Sherfield, regarded as the No. 9 shooting guard and the No. 54 overall prospect, joins 2019 5-Star UCLA PG commit, LaMelo Ball . According to 247Sports.com, Sherfield had received offers from Oklahoma, Cal, LSU, Texas, Illinois, Kansas, Mississippi State, and St. Louis.

On October 21st, Sherfield had an unofficial visit to UCLA, and this visit with his mom seemed to have a big impact on his decision. “They showed how much love they have for me,” Sherfield told Rivals.com. “They love the way I play, and I think they have great basketball minds. We watched practice, and I just loved what they did. We are on the same page, and it’s a great fit for me athletics and academics.” Sherfield believes that he can do everything that you want a guard to do. "I'm an explosive combo guard," said Sherfield. "I can score the ball. I can play well defensively and I’m a good passer."

According to Bruins Sport Report, Sherfield is at his best when he creates off the dribble and uses his strength to finish in traffic. He has good range on his jumper but is not as athletic as current Bruin Aaron Holiday — whom Alford and his staff compared him to.

Anytime UCLA can go outside the state of California and pick up top talent, it shows the reach that the program has and is always a positive.

Welcome to Westwood, Grant!

Go Bruins!
