July has a very busy recruiting month for UCLA Football, but it got busier still today when three-star cornerback Ken Montgomery, Jr. announced that he is committing to the Bruins.
Montgomery made his announcement on Spectrum Sports Florida.
Montgomery is 6’2” tall and weighs 175 lbs.
While I know that some of our readers will undoubtedly complain that Montgomery is “just another 3-star” recruit, if you look at the schools UCLA beat out to get Montgomery, you can’t help but be impressed. He had offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Southern Cal and more. Hell, his offer list looks like his own personal Top 25.
So, frankly, I don’t give a damn how many stars a kid has anymore.
What I like about his highlights is that he just keeps going until the ball is dead. On one of the plays about midway through, he causes a fumble that’s recovered by his team. By the time his teammate starts running the other way with the ball, he’s pretty far from the play but he gets up, trails the play and actually blocks someone downfield before the end of the play. I like that kind of hustle, effort and mentality and I’d take 100 3-star players with those quality over 1 entitled 5-star player any day of the week because those lunch-pail kind of guys are the ones who go above and beyond to help a team win.
Welcome to Westwood, Ken!
