The 2019 UCLA Bruins football recruiting class got a little bit bigger this afternoon when 3-star DB Carl Jones announced his commitment to the Bruins.

Jones made the announcement on B Varsity Live, which is a weekly show on Bakersfield.com.

Bakersfield High senior Carl Jones makes his verbal commitment LIVE in studio

While 247Sports.com lists him as an athlete, it seems clear from the video that UCLA is recruiting him as a defensive back.

His Hudl.com profile lists Jones as 6’1” tall and weighing 195 pounds. Here is his midseason defensive highlight video from Hudl.

247Sports’ Brandon Huffman quotes Jones discussing his decision:

My official visit to UCLA was really good and I learned a lot. We got in depth with all the coaches about character and what it takes to be a Bruin. The thing that’s stood out the most was that it’s really a family-based team.

After listening to him talk about why he committed to Colorado, hearing why he chose UCLA makes sense. It sounds like Jones likes the family feel of the Bruins.

Jones went into more detail about his visit to UCLA with Huffman. He said:

I met with all of the coaches and had a 1-on-1 with Coach (Chip) Kelly,” said Jones. “We talked about being a Bruin and how would I fit in to the program. Then I talked defensive schemes with Coach (Paul) Rhoads 1-on-1 then I was with Coach Azz (Jerry Azzinaro), talking about their philosophy on how they call plays on defense.

According to the B Varsity video, Jones will be signing his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday afternoon at 12:45 pm at Bakersfield HS.

Welcome to Westwood, Carl!

Recruiting Notes

QB Jayden Daniels, who UCLA had been recruiting, committed to Arizona State today. This might seem like a blow to the Bruins as many thought that Daniels could come in and challenge for the starting job next season but, given the fact that Chase Griffin was recently named the Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year, it may not be as big a blow as it could have been.

Finally, here’s what the 2019 UCLA Football Recruiting Class now looks like:
