When Keegan Jones committed to the UCLA Bruins in August, I wrote about his speed:
This much cannot be disputed. Keegan Jones is fast.
How fast? Fast enough to win the Tennessee State Championship in the 200m race and fast enough to run the 100m in 10.57 seconds.
Well, maybe he isn’t quite that fast, after all. That’s because Jones wasn’t the first recruit signing announced by UCLA this. He was the second. Chase Griffin beat him by less than a minute, at least according to the official UCLA website which lists both NLIs as arriving at 5:09 am this morning. If there’s a guy who could beat Jones, Griffin is probably it considering that Griffin was born at the UCLA Medical Center.
But, few others can catch him and no one else was faster at submitting his National Letter of Intent this morning.
To be honest, it’s a little surprising that Jones was announced this morning at all because, as our article announcing Jones’ commitment notes, Jones is coming to UCLA as a greyshirt, meaning that, technically, he was already considered part of the 2018 recruiting class.
Continuing the speed theme, Jones is expected to be one of the first Bruins who sign today to get to campus as he is expected to enroll in January.
Here’s another look at Jones’ senior year highlights from Hudl.com.
It will be interesting to see how Jones develops at UCLA, considering that he was ranked as a 2-star recruit coming out of Cleveland HS in Cleveland, Tennessee last season.
Of course, they say you can’t teach speed, which is good because Jones has plenty of that.
Welcome to Westwood, Keegan!
