And, UCLA Football’s 2018 recruiting class just keeps growing and growing!

It grew again last evening when JUCO LB Tyree Thompson became the 22nd recruit to commit to the UCLA Bruins.

Thompson is a local kid who played his high school football at Bishop Alemany in the Valley. Out of high school, he initially enrolled at Sacramento State, but later transferred to LA Valley College. At LA Valley last season, he made 51 tackles and had 1 sack.

It’s been an interesting six weeks for Thompson. He was offered by the North Texas on December 27th and committed to the Mean Green on January 4th, but an offer came in from Vanderbilt on December 29th and he decommitted from North Texas on January 6th and committed to the SEC school on January 7th.

When UCLA made him an offer yesterday, he immediately decommitted from Vanderbilt and committed to the Bruins.

The 6’3”, 235 lb. Thompson is ranked as the 10th best outside linebacker in the 2018 class. Watching his Hudl highlight reel which includes tape of his time at Sac State, Thompson appears to be pretty versatile. On one play he might be lined up as at middle linebacker while on another he might be lined up as a defensive end or outside linebacker.

But, one thing is certain: he is the kind of defender which makes offenses say, “Where’s number 8?” because that is the number he has worn until now.

Of course, Thompson will not be able to wear number 8 for the Bruins because that number has been retired in honor of Troy Aikman, but I’m sure Thompson can understand that. Something tells me he’s just glad to be staying in LA.

Here’s the full list of UCLA Football’s 2018 recruiting class.
