UCLABruins.com lists Irby at 5’9” tall and 204 pounds. He ran for 1,729 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior at San Diego’s Morse HS. While he many seem small, Irby is explosively quick. He looks like the kind of running back we’ve been missing for a while. He also appears to be very elusive. Defenders just seem to miss tackling him even if he’s in front of the defenders.
His play seems reminiscient of Maurice Jones-Drew. Take a look at his Hudl senior year highlights for yourself.
Irby did not announce his commitment until after his NLI was already submitted. According to the official site, his NLI was received at 9:39 am. UCLA immediately tweeted that Irby was on board.
