UCLA Football Recruiting: Bruins Extend Scholarship Offers to 11 More

On the second #8CLAP8TH, UCLA football extended scholarship offers to 11 more recruits.

Damian Sellers is one of the three four-star recruits UCLA offered on Friday.
@Damian_Sellers

Last month, UCLA football offered scholarships to 19 recruits as a part of the first #8CLAP8TH offer event. This month, UCLA offered scholarships to 11 more recruits.

Before we get into who was offered this month, I took a look at the 63 recruits who I wrote about last month as having been offered either in February or prior to February. Why was this necessary? Because, sometimes, a recruit’s ranking can change. A guy who had been a three-star recruit may earn a fourth star or, as was the case for TJ Bass, a recruit who had no stars can land on the radar of recruiting services and be changed to a three-star recruit a month later. So, I wanted to review that situation and find out who, if anyone had changed.

There were a few. As I previously mentioned, TJ Bass is now a three-star recruit. Nick Herbig, earned a fourth star while Bijan Robinson has earned a fifth star. Based on the total numbers, there are likely a few other upgrades which didn’t catch my eye and are not included in this list. Next month, I’ll be sure to mention every ranking upgrade.

It’s also worth noting that, upon further review of the recruits who I listed as having been offered prior to February last month, it looks like about nine of them have, in fact, not been offered, or may have been offered by Jim Mora and it doesn’t look like those offers remain extended. So, those nine recruits have been removed from the list I’m publishing this month.

That said, let’s take a look at what UCLA has done to start to building the Bruins’ 2020 recruiting class to this point.

As best as I can tell, the Bruins extended 11 offers on Friday. The March offers break down this way. Three of the recruits are rated as four-star recruits while eight of them are rated as three-star recruits.

Finally, let’s break down some numbers on this just like I did last month so we can keep track of things.

UCLA Football Recruiting 2020 Offer Breakdown (as of March)

Ranking Pre-March Offers March Offers Total
Ranking Pre-March Offers March Offers Total
★★★★★ 10 0 10
★★★★ 29 3 32
★★★ 15 8 23
★★ (or lower) 0 0 0
Total 54 11 65

While the total number of recruits went up only slightly compared to last month because I pulled out the nine recruits who don’t seem to have an offer, the number of blue chip recruits is now at 42 of 65 due to ranking upgrades and this month’s offers

That means that, as of right now, more than 64% of UCLA’s offers have gone to blue chip recruits.

Of course, now, the question is: When will the Bruins pick up their first commitment for 2020?

Go Bruins!!!
