In February, UCLA football offered scholarships to 19 recruits as a part of the first #8CLAP8TH offer event. Then in March, UCLA offered scholarships to 11 more recruits.
While this month’s event kind of got overlooked a little due to the men’s basketball coaching search, the Bruins extended 11 offers on Monday. The April offers consist of eleven three-star recruits.

Finally, let’s break down some numbers on this just like I did in both February and March so we can keep track of things. Overall, there was only one blue chip recruit added this month and that’s offensive tackle Zak Zinter. But, apparently, Zinter received his offer in February , but flew under the radar and didn’t tweet about his offer until February 26. So, I’m adding him this month, but including him in the list of offers before April. The rest are all three-star recruits which means that the percentage of blue chip recruits offered will drop some this month.
UCLA Football Recruiting 2020 Offer Breakdown (as of March)
Ranking | Pre-March Offers | March Offers | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Ranking | Pre-March Offers | March Offers | Total |
★★★★★ | 10 | 0 | 10 |
★★★★ | 29 | 3 | 32 |
★★★ | 15 | 8 | 23 |
★★ (or lower) | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Total | 54 | 11 | 65 |
The total number of recruits is now up to 77, but the number of blue chip recruits remains at 42. That’s because, while we added Zinter now, one recruit who I had mistakenly listed as a four-star recruit is actually a three-star recruit. That’s Washington commit Ethan Garbers. So, the total number of offers to blue chip recruits stays at 42 of UCLA’s 77 offers.
That means that, as of right now, 55% of UCLA’s offers have gone to blue chip recruits. That’s down from more than 64%, as of last month. That’s a little concerning and, while I’ve been tracking this the past few months, it was mostly because the Bruins had not received any commitments yet.
But the UCLA Bruins picked up two commitments since last month. So, let’s add one final table to this and we’ll include it moving forward and that’s UCLA’s 2020 Recruiting Class Commitments.
UCLA Football 2020 Recruiting Class (last updated April 12, 2019)
Recruit | Position | Ranking | Recruiting Class | School (City, State) | Commitment |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Recruit | Position | Ranking | Recruiting Class | School (City, State) | Commitment |
Parker McQuarrie | QB | ★★★★ | 2020 | St. Paul's School (Concord, NH) | UCLA |
Jay Max Jacobsen | DE | ★★★ | 2020 | Temecula Valley (Temecula, CA) | UCLA |
Of the two recruits UCLA has received a commitment from, one is a four-star recruit, quarterback Parker McQuarrie, and one is not, defensive end Jay Max Jacobson, meaning that the blue chip ratio of the 2020 recruiting class so far is 50%.
While that is a big improvement over 2019, Coach Kelly needs to continue reeling in the big fish to make up for the lack of blue chip recruits in the 2019 class.
Go Bruins!!!
