The 6’ 4”, 200-pound senior received additional offers from UC Berkeley, BYU, Nebraska, Oregon and Dartmouth, among others. The trip to Oregon was particularly alluring for Sykes since former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota is also an alum from the St. Louis School in Honolulu.
He began his relationship with UCLA on an unofficial visit in April and received his offer back on June 9.
Sykes unfortunately missed his junior season due to breaking his leg last summer, but returned just in time for the Hawaii state championship game last season. He is back in full force this year, running a 4.66 40-yard dash, according to his Hudl profile. He has been selected to play in the 2020 Polynesian Bowl.
Sykes has a three-game highlight reel posted on Hudl.
Welcome to Westwood, Matt!
Go Bruins!
