Lost among the news from Pac-12 Football Media Day on Wednesday was some UCLA Bruins football recruiting news. That’s when Luke Akers from Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee committed to the Bruins.

While Akers is ranked as a two-star prospect by 247Sports, but he is ranked as a five-star kicker by Kohl’s Kicking Camps. Kohl’s ranks him as the ninth-best kicker in the country and the tenth-best punter in the country.

Normally, I would share some of a recruits measurables, but that really doesn’t matter in this case because Akers is a kicker. Of course, it doesn’t make any sense to do that since Akers is a placekicker and a punter.

Instead, it’s simply worth noting that Luke Akers is the son of former NFL kicker David Akers. The elder Akers was a six-time Pro Bowl selection while with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers and he played 16 seasons in the NFL. Hopefully, he has taught his son well.

Here is Akers’ junior season highlight video from Hudl.com:

Welcome to Westwood, Luke!
