The Orange County Register is reporting that former USC quarterback Todd Marinovich was arrested in Irvine on Friday "after he was found naked with marijuana in someone else’s backyard" by police.
According to the article:
[Marinovich] was cited for trespassing, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, Irvine police Commander Mike Hallinan said Monday. Police suspect that the substance was methamphetamine, he said, but what was discovered will undergo testing.
The 47-year-old Marinovich was a first-round pick of the Raiders in 1991 after only spending two years at Southern Cal. The Raiders released him before the 1993 season.
Substance abuse problems caused Marinovich to leave Southern Cal after he was arrested following the 1990 Sun Bowl. He has had substance abuse issues off and on ever since.
Marinovich tried numerous times to resurrect his NFL career by playing in the CFL and the Arena Football League, but he never played again in the NFL despite having multiple tryouts and interest from teams including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears and San Diego Chargers.
